This has been a great year for the public schools.   Highlights include:

New items purchased for the MSHA Library

  1. Response to Intervention

  2.  Workload Analysis for Caseloads

New program chair for the Program of the Year: Karen Florka

  1. We have programs nominated for program of the year.  Karen and I  will develop a campaign to recruit more site observers this year as we review evaluation forms for program selection

  2. We have selected two programs for the Program of the Year from:

          a. Jenison Public Schools

           b. Grosse Pointe Schools

 

Michigan Guidelines are completed

  1.  The Michigan Guidelines: Suggestions for Eligibility, Service Delivery, and Exit Criteria Revised are completed.  Maureen Staskowski was the project manager of this project.  Guidelines presentations were presented at the Macomb ISD in December and January.

  2.  Next step: distribution

  3.  Hard copy

  5.  We will have copies at the Conference.

  6. I will form a committee for updating the document.

Continued networking with SLP's thru listserv and public school meetings.

  1.  Major topics of discussions:

           a. Tenure

           b. How do you define and implement a workload model of service delivery?

           c. New SLP's with teaching experience and literacy/

           d. Teaching certification

Membership

  1.  Donations-two memberships were raffled at the Guidelines presentation in Macomb.

  2.  Also, presentations were made at the Guideline workshops for membership to MSHA.

  3. Survey taken at workshop of non members and members.

Workforce committee member

  1.  Created a survey for SLP in the school system on Job Satisfaction.

  2.  Gathering data of Workload of SLP's in Michigan

  3.  Created a Mentor fourm with Judy Lytwynec and Jan McCosky at the upcoming MSHA Conference.

  4. Promoting and recruitment for Speech-Language Pathologist and Audiologist careers with high school students and undergraduates

          a.  Job Fairs

          b. PSC meeting

          c. County workshops

Continue to research tele-conferencing with respect to:

  1.  Service Delivery

  2. Developing communication networks with MSHA members throughtout the state.
