2007 Annual Report

Jamie Coker, M.A., CCC-SLP

Vice President for Continuing Professional Development

The Michigan Speech-Language-Hearing Association (MSHA) is an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association approved CE Provider.  MSHA sponsors continuing professional development by offering continuing education activities, processing cooperative agreements and independent study activities for ASHA CEUs.  Additionally, MSHA receives approval for State Board CEUs for the annual conference.  These activities provide members and professionals the opportunity to earn CEUs to maintain ASHA certification and Michigan teacher certification.

The Vice President for Continuing Professional Development processes CEU participant forms and maintains records.

In 2007 there were eight cooperative agreements in which over 725 participants earned ASHA CEUs.  At the 2007 annual conference alone, the following number of participants earned CEUs:

            ASHA CEUs – 371

            SB-CEUs - 158

All MSHA members are encouraged to participate in continuing education activities as a commitment to life long learning, provision of state of the art services, and to maintain certification.  An update of educational programs throughout the state can be found in each issue of the et cetera.  Programs offering SB CEUs (State Board CEUs) can be found on the State of Michigan, Department of Education web site.  Options for earning ASHA CEUs are available on ASHA’s web site, asha.org.   Additionally, specific information for maintaining and tracking ASHA CEUs is available on the ASHA website.  The website link to address frequently addressed questions is:
